Progressive Dream

Life is for the takers, and in this age there's a lot to take in. It is not enough to simply endevour, or to be ignorant of the lot of the others among us. Someone once said that when there is suffering anywhere, all of humanity suffers. To me that is a charge for each of us to do something about our lot, and do something for those less fortunate, and to strive for justice, and all of the many other high ideals.

My current Dreams, such as they are

I posted the following at ohio.com. Please feel free to comment here or there:

I admit that Democrats like Chuck Schumer, Diok Durbin, and especially Hillary Clinton (as well as many House Democrats) have been fairly partisan over various points in their careers. Sometimes it feels like it is one big joke, with them always taking the hyper-partisan position.

But, most Democrats have tried to adopt a spirit of bipartisanship recently (following the 2006 elections).

And, a lot of Republicans and their arguments have been VERY disingenuous, especially since they have been in the majority.

For example, Lindsey Graham is most probably gay, but you won't hear him, in any of his public (or private) remarks even mentioning the word homosexual.

Some Democrats also believe that Bill Frist and/or Rick Santorum are probably gay as well.

Also, on the recent issue having to do with the war in Iraq, the troop "surge," or, more accurately, the escalation, almost all top-level military officials, including retired General Powell, agree that it is not going to improve the situation. But, that doesn't stop the Republicans from calling Democrats who have opposed the war, or now oppose it, soar losers (or winners) or defeatists, or using the words of the most famous (liberal) Republican, Abraham Lincoln, such as Ileana Ros-Lehtinen out of context to support their false beliefs. Maybe she is right about something, though. Democrats haven't stood up for what is right nearly enough. There's even a You Tube video telling them not to be a bunch of Pussies.

I stand for a politics that is about solving problems. That embraces a positive agenda. That doesn't seek to take rights away, but holds them dear. An honest brand of politics where those in power listen, and stand up for the common citizenry. Those that are hopeless, hungry, or tired of life. Those that work hard and can't afford basic necessities. That protects the rights of individuals and their families over corporations. A politics that values justice, and the rule of law. That lifts up those less fortunate and embraces them.

It's about values. And I think those are some everyone should agree on.

Am I satisfied with what the Democrats have done since they took office? Absolutely not. I demand that and a whole lot more. We have tremendous obstacles facing this nation, and the president is the least of those concerns.

Now, more than ever a determined group of citizens are asking more of their government, and trying to craft it in their own image of what is good.

And, it can be good again.

What happened in the 2004 election is sick, and it doesn't belong in a Democracy such as ours.
